Introducing, the very special Kaylb, who will be 4 years old in November. When Kaylb came into SHWA UK, he was not in good shape and did require vet care to help address some of those issues. Kaylb was scared of the world when he came into foster and incredibly thin. However, with the selfless care and TLC of his foster family, Kaylb is blossoming into a very handsome boy.
Kaylb is an incredibly affection boy and loves attention and tummy rubs. However, Kaylb is still wary of strangers and will show this by barking and backing away. If you pay him no mind when he is showing this anxiety, Kaylb will come round and come to you in his time. Anyone lucky enough to be his special forever family, will need to understand that it wont be instant affection nor trust and they will need to be prepared to put in the effort necessary to gain his trust. In return, you will see the amazing character he has. He just needs time and staying power and for humans to not let him down. Kaylb can still be startled by sudden movements and loud noises, therefore, we feel a calm and relaxed home with older children only, would be the right home for him. Kaylb is in foster with 3 other Huskies and gets on well with them all, with no issues. He will need a home with at least 1 other dog and where 1 of the humans in the home, are not out for hugely lengthy spells as he thrives on human company. He can be left for up to 2 hours, though will howl for a short while on being left but does settle. Initially, however, we’d suggest a slow gradual build up to being left, whilst he adjusts to his new environment and family
Kaylb has a high prey drive so absolutely no cats or small furries. Kaylb was extremely thin when he came into foster and though he has put on 6kg, he still has a long way to go until you could say he was in tip top condition. He is food orientated which is understandable and is fed using a slow feeder and separately from the other dogs. He will, in time, realise he will always get another meal. He can now take treats whilst next to his foster fur brothers and sisters. Kaylb was recently neutered also. He can be fearful of the vets but if the vet is willing to build up trust, as his fosters vet has, he will continue to be less anxious on any trip there. Kaylb has required house training and though 98% house trained now, he can have the odd accident but this is easily managed. Kaylb truly is a very loving boy and loves humans almost as much as he loves playing fetch with a ball!! Now, we do have to tell you that Kaylb loves a sing song, a loud sing song!! When he’s saying hello, when he wants attention, when he’s happy or actually, just because he can! Kaylb is 1 of the Smarden 18 dogs and you can read their tragic story from the link below. If you think you can give Kaylb all he deserves but especially the staying power and to never give up, then you will have the most amazing boy in the months to come. You too, would be part of his journey to recovery. To be considered, you will need to firstly complete an adoption application and have a home check carried out. An adoption fee of £200 does apply also.
